[eLIFE 242]: Smoker’s 101

[eLIFE 242]: Smoker’s 101

So let’s agree on one thing before we even start the article; smokers usually get a bad wrap at every social event! Well, not if that event is a cigar smoke night or a weed head’s house party, but at most social events the smoker ends up being the social outcast. So we decided to help our most times outcasted smokers with a few tips to still be a chill factor at a crowded event!

  1. Try to find the corner of the party where the wind is on your side! – Meaning if the wind is blowing to your left in the party, you need to be standing all the way left in the party, so when your smoke drifts it’s drifting out of the party. Yeah it may be inconvenient but the rest of the party who does not want to go home smelling like a deluxe pack of Black & Mild will appreciate the effort!
  2. Ask before you light up! – Though many people will not have a problem with it… it’s always courteous to ask the persons closer to you if they would mind the cigar smoke treatment you are about to give them! Think about it, at least you give them the options to move to another seat or zone of the party. This even applies if you are in a smoking area at the event. In any event asking before you light up is always a great way to break the ice into an actual convo!CREDIT: BILL O'LEARY
  3. Do not walk through a tight crowd with a lit smoke – I mean unless you are trying to mark someone permanently or are some sort of psychopath with a thrill for branding people unknowingly, this is not a good idea. You will be the most disliked person at the event if you happen to scar the prettiest girl there or none the least leaving her newest dress scorched…just be careful.
  4. Carry Breath Mints/Mouth Wash (and use it) – Smoking may be very relaxing for you and it may make your night, but if you are out with your lady or are seeking to bag a young lady you may wanna get rid of that smoker’s breath before you make a romantic move. Again this rule may not apply if you are at a smoker’s party and all the girls are down with smoker’s breath, but if it’s not a smoker’s convention you may want to get a breath check in before saying hello!

Smokers, be aware of your surroundings. The world doesn’t revolve around you. Non-smokers, the world doesn’t revolve around you either. We can each adjust to the situation and treat each other with humility and respect. When each of us makes an effort to be polite to those around us, we will find ourselves in fewer uncomfortable situations.
