[NEW MUSIC] Charisa releases “Get Gone”

Charisa Smith NEW SINGLE "Get Gone"

If you have had the opportunity to walk through the lobby of the newly built Baha Mar Resort at night, we’re sure you’ve heard the soothing sounds of Charisa Smith. Her smooth vocals accompany the Essence Band three nights a week at the Blue Note Lounge.

Her vocal stylings have been, not only catching, but wowing the ears of local music connoisseurs. In our personal opinion she can sing anything and has been known to do covers ranging the entire musical spectrum. This week eLIFE242 was delighted to hear that she would be releasing a new single produced by famed Bahamian producer Sketch Carey, so we caught up with Charisa to find out about the new music and future releases.

eLIFE242: So tell us a little about what inspired the new single?
Charisa: My manager Travis who is also a writer presented me with the hook and I felt an attachment right away because those words related to things that myself and a lot of other women went through. I sang it a few times in my head and the verses and bridge followed thereafter.

eLIFE242: The song feels like a personal message to somebody. Is there someone you want gone out of your life?
Charisa: It is a pretty personal song, hopefully the lyrics can encourage someone that is in the position I was in to get out of toxic relationships, friendships, “situationships.” I had to make a decision a few years ago to get rid of people that meant me no good. Love shouldn’t have been the only reason I stayed, and I blamed myself for allowing myself sometimes to stay longer and enduring what that toxic relationship brought instead of telling the persons to “Get Gone” and to move on with life.

eLIFE242: How was it working with Sketch?
Charisa: I was star struck for every session, I would get super nervous to sing in front of him so I’d tell him to close his eyes and don’t look while I sang the melody of the song, so he can have an idea of the sound and structure of the track. He is so amazing, I can’t say that enough, and I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with him.

eLIFE242: Over the past few months your voice has really been grabbing the attention of just about everyone who had the pleasure to hear it, how has that made you feel?
Charisa: This experience made me believe in my gift again. I was going through a period where I doubted my talent and I would compare my sound, and my look with persons that I looked up to. But God has this way of reassuring us of the gifts he’s blessed us with. I’m honestly just grateful that I can touch someone with my gift and humbled that He chose me to carry it.

eLIFE242: Are you planning to release more original music this year?
Charisa: This new single “Get Gone” is one of a few songs that will be on my upcoming EP and I’m very excited about it!! I will push to release another before the year is out, but the EP itself will be released next year.

eLIFE242: Where can people come and hear you sing?
Charisa: People can come and here me sing three nights a week at the Jazz Lounge/Blue Note Lounge in the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Bahamar!

eLIFE242: How do we follow you on social media?
Charisa: You can find me on Facebook as Charisa, on Instagram @charisasmith, and Sound Cloud Charisa Smith
